Two mindsets I see: static mindset (payoff mortgage) and growth mindset (ability to pay off mortgage at anytime).

Due to his fear of a financial collapse and the seizing of assets he thinks people should get rid of all debt. Not sure about the details of his reasoning there. The documentary is worth watching if you haven't seen it.
